What are the requirements to go LIVE on TikTok? What TikTok publishes
TikTok's Help Center sets out the LIVE requirements in a few lines (who can use LIVE on TikTok). Here's what TikTok publishes in its Help Center and on the TikTok LIVE blog, as of 7 October 2026. These requirements may change: check them in the app.
| Requirement | What TikTok publishes |
|---|---|
| Age to go LIVE | At least 18, or the age of majority in your country according to the Creator Academy and the TikTok LIVE blog |
| Followers to go LIVE | 1,000, with a note that this threshold can vary by region |
| Age to send or receive Gifts | 18, or 19 in South Korea |
| Country | LIVE and Gifts aren't available everywhere |
| Age confirmation | Depending on your country, TikTok may ask for it when you start a LIVE |
| Rules | Follow the Community Guidelines and Terms of Service, according to the TikTok LIVE blog |
Why “1,000 followers” isn't a universal figure
TikTok itself says the threshold can vary by region. In May 2024, it also announced that it was testing different minimum follower requirements for less established creators, and that some new creators might have to complete extra steps, such as reconfirming their age (TikTok announcement, May 2024). So two accounts can be subject to different thresholds without either one being “the rule”.
What applies to your account is what the app offers you, not a figure you read in a video or on a forum.
What TikTok doesn't publish
- the actual follower threshold for each country, France and Belgium included;
- the list of countries where LIVE or Gifts aren't offered;
- how long the phased access for new creators lasts, or what its stages are;
- the specific reasons a LIVE button is missing.
Going LIVE, receiving Gifts, monetising: three levels of TikTok LIVE requirements
Being able to start a LIVE doesn't mean you can receive Gifts in it, or earn rewards from it. TikTok publishes three sets of requirements, which stack on top of each other.
| Level | Requirements published by TikTok | What TikTok doesn't specify |
|---|---|---|
| Going LIVE | 18; 1,000 followers (can vary by region); age confirmation if TikTok asks for it | The exact threshold in your country |
| Receiving Gifts | Living in a country where LIVE Gifts is available; being 18 (19 in South Korea); being eligible to go LIVE; having an account in good standing; turning on LIVE Gifts in the LIVE screen settings | The list of countries concerned |
| Monetising | The requirements listed below this table | The details by region |
To monetise, according to TikTok, you need to:
- be 18 (19 in South Korea);
- have an account in good standing;
- interact with your viewers naturally and genuinely;
- be eligible to go LIVE and have access to LIVE Gifts;
- live in a country where these features are available;
- create content that complies with the LIVE monetisation guidelines.
These requirements come from the Help Center page on the eligibility requirements for LIVE Gifts, from the article TikTok LIVE monetisation requirements, which notes that availability may vary by account type and region, and from the LIVE monetisation guidelines.
Two points are worth noting. Government, politician and political party accounts, like other public interest accounts, can't collect Diamonds through LIVE Gifts. And the TikTok LIVE article “How to go LIVE on TikTok” mentions different age thresholds by region for monetisation, without listing them: the only one given a figure in the pages we read is South Korea, at 19.
Why not everything unlocks on day one
In its announcement of 24 May 2024, TikTok said it was starting to give new creators access to LIVE features in phases: first getting used to going LIVE, then the monetisation and interaction features. It publishes neither how long this takes nor the stages, and none of the pages we consulted says whether this phased rollout is still in place. So a newly eligible account can go LIVE without having access to everything yet.
What happens to your Diamonds next, and how TikTok calculates a reward, is explained in how much TikTok LIVE pays: Diamonds, LIVE rewards and withdrawals.
Going LIVE on TikTok at 16 or 17: why it hasn't been possible since 2022
Until 23 November 2022, the minimum age to host a LIVE was 16. On 17 October 2022, TikTok announced that it would rise to 18 on that date (TikTok announcement, October 2022).
In the same announcement, it said it wanted to let creators restrict their LIVE to an adult audience, for example for a comedy routine or a conversation about a difficult life experience.
So the videos and articles that still talk about “16” are repeating an outdated rule. All the TikTok pages we consulted on 7 October 2026 set a minimum age of 18, and the Creator Academy and the TikTok LIVE blog also mention the age of majority in your country.
What happens if you're under 18
- You can't go LIVE, or send or receive Gifts during a LIVE.
- If TikTok asks you to confirm your age and establishes that you're under 18, you can't access LIVE or the other features for which you don't meet the minimum age.
- If it establishes that you're under 13, your account is removed: that's the minimum age to use TikTok.
Changing your date of birth won't get you around this: TikTok may ask you to confirm your age precisely to make sure LIVE creators meet the age requirement.
Going LIVE on a parent's account raises a different problem: the LIVE monetisation guidelines make content where under-18s are the primary focus or the primary participants ineligible for monetisation.
Until you turn 18, you can still start building your community with videos.
TikTok LIVE age verification: when TikTok asks for it and how to do it
Depending on your country, TikTok may ask you to confirm your age when you start a LIVE. There are four methods, and not all of them are offered everywhere: ID and selfies, selfie with ID through Incode, credit card authorisation, and facial age estimation. If TikTok can't confirm your age, you can't go LIVE.
When TikTok asks for it
When you start a LIVE: just follow the on-screen instructions. TikTok may also not ask at all, depending on factors such as your location, or if you've already confirmed your age. The result decides your access:
- age of 18 or over confirmed: you can go LIVE;
- age can't be confirmed: you can't go LIVE;
- under 18 confirmed: no access to LIVE;
- under 13 confirmed: account removed.
The four methods, depending on your country
| Method | What you need to provide | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| ID and selfies | Photos of a government-issued ID and 3 selfies taken from different angles | The selfies are used to confirm that you're a real person |
| Selfie with ID, through Incode | Photos of your ID, a selfie taken in real time and your agreement to Incode's terms | You have 15 minutes to finish; if you exit before then, you'll need to wait 15 minutes before trying again. You'll then be asked to agree to share your date of birth with TikTok |
| Credit card authorisation | Your credit card details | A small, temporary charge is made to authenticate the card; it's refunded |
| Facial age estimation | A selfie taken in real time, not one from your photo album, with your face fully in the frame and no hat (you can keep your glasses on) | A service provider estimates your age, sends the estimate to TikTok, then deletes the selfie |
The methods offered depend on your country: you won't necessarily have all four. Have your ID ready before you start.
What happens to your documents
As soon as the process is complete, TikTok starts deleting what you submitted, selfies and photos of your ID included, and doesn't show any of it anywhere on TikTok. For as long as your account exists, it keeps, among other things, your date of birth, the fact that you confirmed your age, the method you used and the result.
With Incode, it's Incode that keeps what you sent: you can ask for it to be deleted from your Incode account.
A tip from us, not a TikTok rule: the process TikTok describes happens in the app, when you start a LIVE. If someone asks you for your ID by message to “unlock your LIVE”, refuse: these are the same warning signs as in TikTok agency code scams.
(This section is based on TikTok's Help Center page on the age requirements for TikTok LIVE.)
Why can't I go LIVE on TikTok? Missing LIVE button, restricted or ended LIVE
If the LIVE button doesn't appear, start with the causes TikTok publishes: age (18), followers (the 1,000 threshold), country, an unfinished age confirmation or a current restriction on your account. Its Help Center doesn't go into any others: if you meet every requirement and the problem persists, it asks you to contact TikTok.
What TikTok publishes
TikTok's Help Center keeps it short: only creators who meet the eligibility requirements can go LIVE (Issues with TikTok LIVE).
Other TikTok pages describe the cases where LIVE is restricted or ended:
- A restriction linked to the monetisation guidelines. Depending on how serious and how frequent the violations are, TikTok can send a warning, temporarily restrict access to LIVE or to monetisation features, or permanently remove access to features such as LIVE Gifts, LIVE Match and time-based rankings. You're notified in your inbox, where you can appeal, and you'll find these actions under Creator tools > LIVE Center > Rules and guidance > Restrictions.
- A LIVE closed for inactivity. If TikTok detects that the host has been inactive for a while and they fail a verification check, it closes the LIVE room (Going LIVE!, Creator Academy). TikTok describes this as closing that one LIVE, not as removing your access.
- An unfinished age confirmation. If TikTok can't confirm your age, you can't go LIVE.
- Your country. LIVE and Gifts aren't available everywhere.
On a computer, LIVE Studio has its own LIVE access, separate from the mobile app: it's covered in detail in the requirements for getting LIVE access in TikTok LIVE Studio.
Our checklist, based on what TikTok publishes
- Check the date of birth on your account: you must be at least 18.
- Compare your follower count with the threshold TikTok publishes: 1,000 in principle, a threshold that can vary by region.
- Update the app, then start the LIVE from the Create (+) button: if an age confirmation appears, see it through to the end.
- Open the Restrictions tab in the LIVE Center (under Rules and guidance), and go back through the notifications in your inbox.
- If you think a restriction is unjustified, appeal it from the notification that announced it.
- If you meet every requirement and the problem persists, contact TikTok, as its Issues with TikTok LIVE page asks you to.
Contacting TikTok isn't an unlock button: none of the TikTok pages we consulted says that reporting a problem opens up LIVE. It's the route TikTok points to when the published requirements don't explain your situation.
How many followers do you need to go LIVE on TikTok? Myths vs the official requirements
TikTok publishes a single figure: 1,000 followers to go LIVE, a threshold that can vary by region. The other figures doing the rounds don't come from any of the official pages we consulted.
Here are the most common claims, set against what TikTok publishes.
| What you may have read | The reality |
|---|---|
| “50 followers is enough”, or “100”, “200”, “400”, “500” | No official page we consulted gives these thresholds. TikTok publishes a threshold of 1,000 followers, which can vary by region |
| “In France, it's 1,000, full stop” | TikTok publishes no threshold by country, for France or for Belgium: 1,000 is the general figure, and it can vary |
| “You can go LIVE at 16” | That was true until 23 November 2022; since then, you must be 18 |
| “You need a public profile” | None of the requirements published by TikTok that we consulted mentions a public profile |
| “Your account has to be 7 days old”, or “30 days old” | No official page we consulted gives these durations. For LIVE access in LIVE Studio, on a computer, TikTok mentions a certain account age, without putting a number on it |
| “Reporting a problem unlocks LIVE” | TikTok asks you to contact it if the problem persists while you meet the requirements; none of the pages we consulted says that a report opens up LIVE |
| “An agency can unlock your LIVE” | None of the TikTok pages we consulted gives agencies that role |
Why so many different figures? A possible explanation, not a certainty: in May 2024, TikTok announced it was testing different minimum follower requirements. A creator may have got LIVE access with a different threshold, at some point, and turned it into a rule. Without an official source, nothing says that figure applies to your account.
How to go LIVE on TikTok for the first time on mobile, step by step
Once your account is eligible, you start a LIVE from the app. The TikTok LIVE blog describes four steps (How to go LIVE on TikTok):
- Open the app and tap the Create (+) button.
- Swipe through the options at the bottom of the screen and choose LIVE.
- Add a title and a cover image.
- Tap Go LIVE.
Before you start, the same article says you can adjust your camera settings, effects, comment controls, moderator permissions and audience restrictions. If your account has access to LIVE Gifts, turn them on in the LIVE screen settings.
What gets a LIVE shut down
The Creator Academy asks you to avoid prolonged inactivity and static or looping visuals: if a host is inactive and fails TikTok's verification, their LIVE is closed (Going LIVE!, Creator Academy).
Going LIVE on TikTok without showing your face
None of the requirements we read says you have to show your face during a LIVE. Our reading is that a gaming LIVE can therefore rely on your gameplay and your voice, as long as you stay present and interact with your viewers.
And on a computer?
On a computer, TikTok describes other options (LIVE Studio, OBS with a stream key, or TikTok on the web), whose availability varies by account and region. It's all explained in how to go LIVE on TikTok from PC with LIVE Studio or OBS.
What a TikTok LIVE agency can do for your LIVE, and what it can't
What no TikTok page gives an agency the power to do
None of the TikTok pages we consulted gives an agency the role of unlocking LIVE, a follower threshold or age confirmation. TikTok also states that TikTok LIVE agencies are independent third-party businesses that it neither endorses nor sponsors (how to create a TikTok LIVE Creator Network).
An agency that promises you an “unlocked” LIVE in exchange for money, your password or your ID is relying on a rule TikTok doesn't publish.
The LIVE requirements are about your own account, not about an agency: age, followers, age confirmation, an account in good standing.
What an agency brings once your account is eligible
According to TikTok, agencies, which it calls Creator Networks, connect creators with advanced tools, exclusive programmes and growth opportunities. Streamline Agency, a TikTok LIVE gaming agency that won awards from TikTok LIVE in 2025 and in 2026, provides its creators with:
- interactive game concepts designed by the agency, where viewers act in the game through Gifts and chat (GTA V, Minecraft, Fortnite, Mario Interactif Tower, Streamline Royale): that's the idea behind interactive LIVE gaming on TikTok;
- Minecraft and FiveM servers hosted, maintained and kept up to date by the agency;
- a dedicated manager reachable every day, plus coaching and feedback on their LIVEs;
- a creator dashboard (bonuses and goals, webhooks, OBS overlays) and help with the legal side (account protection, help with declaring income).
Membership is free, with no commitment and 0% commission: creators keep 100% of their earnings, and Streamline is paid by TikTok. To see how an invitation works, read how to join a TikTok LIVE agency, step by step.
Streamline works with creators from the FR+ zone (France and French-speaking countries), Germany and Switzerland. To find out more, discover Streamline Agency and the regions it works with.
Frequently asked questions
What are the requirements to go LIVE on TikTok?
According to TikTok's Help Center, as of 7 October 2026, you must be at least 18 and have 1,000 followers, a threshold that can vary by region, live in a country where LIVE is offered, and confirm your age if TikTok asks you to when you start a LIVE. Receiving Gifts also requires you to be 18 and to have an account in good standing. What counts for your account is what the app offers you.
How many followers do you need to go LIVE on TikTok?
According to TikTok's Help Center, you need 1,000 followers to go LIVE, a threshold that can vary by region, and you must be at least 18. TikTok doesn't publish the exact threshold for each country, and in May 2024 it announced it was testing different minimum thresholds. The “50” or “100 followers” you'll see quoted aren't official: go by what the app offers you on your account.
Can you go LIVE on TikTok at 16?
No. Since 23 November 2022, you must be at least 18 to host a LIVE on TikTok; before that date, the minimum age was 16. You also need to be 18 to send or receive Gifts. If TikTok asks you to confirm your age and establishes that you're under 18, you can't access LIVE.
Can you go LIVE on TikTok without 1,000 followers?
TikTok publishes a threshold of 1,000 followers, noting that it can vary by region, and in May 2024 it announced it was testing different minimum thresholds. So an account may be subject to a different threshold, but no official page gives a lower figure that applies to everyone. None of the TikTok pages we consulted describes a trick, or a role for agencies, to unlock LIVE: check what the app offers you.
Why can't I go LIVE on TikTok?
According to TikTok, only creators who meet the requirements can go LIVE. Check your age (18), your follower count (1,000, which can vary by region), your country, any age confirmation still to complete and the Restrictions tab of the LIVE Center, in Creator tools. If you meet every requirement and the problem persists, contact TikTok.
How do I verify my age to go LIVE on TikTok?
When TikTok asks you to, as you start a LIVE, follow the instructions shown on screen. Depending on your country, you can provide an ID and three selfies, take a selfie with your ID through Incode, authorise a small, temporary charge on your credit card that's then refunded, or send a real-time selfie for facial age estimation. TikTok starts deleting your documents as soon as the process is complete; with Incode, it's Incode that keeps what you sent, and you can ask for it to be deleted from your Incode account.
Do you need 1,000 followers in France or Belgium?
TikTok publishes no threshold specific to France or to Belgium. Its Help Center gives 1,000 followers to go LIVE, with a note that this threshold can vary by region. What counts for your account is what the app offers you: be wary of “country by country” tables that circulate without a source.
Why did I lose access to TikTok LIVE?
TikTok describes several cases: a temporary restriction of LIVE access after a violation of the monetisation guidelines, or an age confirmation that was requested and not completed. A LIVE can also be closed if the host is inactive and fails a verification check: TikTok describes this as closing that one LIVE, not as removing your access. Check your inbox and Creator tools > LIVE Center > Rules and guidance > Restrictions; a restriction can be appealed from its notification. On a computer, LIVE access in LIVE Studio has its own rules.
